Where to Eat and Drink before a Grove Show: Rob's Rec

The best night in Astoria: Rob’s Version

It's Friday 5pm, you’ve just finished work at your job that you should have quit 3 years ago but they’re paying you just enough to keep you from jumping out a window. You check to confirm you have your tickets to the 7:30 Comedy Show at Grove 34 and you get on the N, W with a  companion who’s also ready to start their weekend.

Here’s my top 3 recs of places to eat/drink before or after a show.

  1. Order a pizza from Milkflower to go (I recommend the clam but you can't go wrong here), pick it up and walk next door to diamond dogs and order a “Times of Grace.” Unbeatable combo.
  2. Get off at the 31st Ave stop and go to the “Eat It” truck on 33rd and 31st ave. You order a falafel pita with all the sauce (the hot is hot so don’t get that if that isn’t you). Walk it across the street to Maggie Halls and order a dirty martini. Perfection and doable late night if you want to go after the show.
  3. Last but not least, I’m going to Nene’s Taquaria on Broadway and getting anywhere between 3-5 Al Pastor Tacos. Eating there and if there's time going across the street to cronin and phelans for a quick irish pint. I would put these tacos up against that Ramirez spot in Greenpoint that has a line 3 blocks long. Also a late night option.

There’s a lot of honorable mentions but ill save some recs for the rest of the Grove 34 staff
